Director of Business Development

We are looking for an enthusiastic, confident, highly motivated individual to help our firm build on 40 years of success, with an eye to the future. This person will serve a critical function in finding and developing net new business opportunities and expanding our footprint to include new clients within our key verticals: higher education, independent schools, arts & culture, civic & community organizations, and financial & professional services.

Responsibilities:
  • Identify potential clients and projects in new organizations (and their key decision makers) where we don’t have existing relationships
  • Collaborate with our brand strategy, writing, and design teams to assist with outbound marketing planning and sales strategies
  • Serve as the primary prospect contact through proposals, pitching, and contract negotiation for all new business—and bring in / work with senior staff as appropriate
  • Review and recommend any changes to our existing proposal and pitch collateral
  • Work closely with all team managers to appropriately scope and price potential work
  • Curate and maintain a library of case studies and all relevant pitch materials in concert with relevant senior staff
  • Work with our digital team to keep our website optimized for search and, eventually, lead generation
  • Identify and attend relevant conferences and networking events as needed, to represent our firm and services
  • Maintain and create relationships with other partners / vendors to identify opportunities to collaborate on future work—and for mutual referral
Requirements:
  • 5-8 years of experience in a sales or outbound marketing role, ideally in a related business
    BA or BS degree
  • Preference for experience working at an advertising or PR agency, architectural, or design firm, or with an in-house design and marketing team
  • Exemplary written and oral communication skills; must be able to confidently represent or present our capabilities through emails, phone calls, in-person meetings, and pitches
  • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office Suite and sales or project management CRM tools
  • Experience with researching the needs / wants of particular verticals
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to self-manage, set goals, and work independently; we will rely on this person to work comfortably and respectfully across teams and report up to leadership without direct management
